A mass ‘Surya Namaskar’ programmes was organised on Monday across the country on the occasion of Swami Vivekananda’s 150th birth anniversary.
The schools were urged to organize special assembly at 10 am for mass ‘Surya namaskar’.
However, a controversy erupted over teh mass Surya Namaskar as certaion Muslim Groups in Bihar raised objection over making it comulsory for all. Prominent Muslim groups requested Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to made few changes in the notice and add provisions of “optional or voluntary”.
Later, Bihar government agreed to their demand and changed the provisions in the circular.
Earlier, around 50 lakh students across Madhya Pradesh on January 12 took part in ‘Surya Namaskar’.
Surya Namaskar comprises 12 different bodily postures that ought to be performed in particular sequence.
“Surya Namaskar is beneficial for the health of digestive system. It stretches the abdominal muscles. Regular practice of Surya Namaskar helps to lose excessive belly fat and gives flat stomach,” an yoga expert said.
