For DMK’s Kanimozhi, an ED chargesheet could mean being sent to jail again

Kanimozhi

2G Spectrum Scam: The case against M Karunanidhi’s daughter Kanimozhi, who is among the accused in the 2G spectrum scandal, has so far been making slow progress, with the Enforcement Directorate yet to chargesheet her and former telecom minister A Raja under the stringent Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

If and when that chargesheet is filed, Kanimozhi could potentially face a second jail term. It could also lead to attachment of her properties and those of DMK-backed Kalaignar TV, say ED officials. Once charged under the stringent act, getting bail is difficult and punishment severe: section 4 prescribes rigorous imprisonment of seven years. Besides, the ED can attach properties identified as “proceeds of crime”.

With Karunanidhi having given the UPA until Thursday to adopt a resolution on Lankan Tamils in Parliament, sources predicted negotiations, and among the issues they expected to be discussed was the chargesheet. ED officials , meanwhile, say it is in its final draft and likely to be filed early next month.

The ED adjudicating authority, a three-member authority for civil proceedings and headed by Prasanna Kumar Misra, had issued orders against various 2G accused in January 2012, accepting as “proceeds of crime” properties identified as such by the ED.

There have been no attachment proceedings against Kanimozhi yet, though the authority’s order had said, “This so-called loan (said to be routed to Kalaignar TV) is the central issue in the case before us. Investigations have disclosed that Dynamix Reality and DB Realty Ltd had taken credit facilities from Ms IL&FS…”

Properties of Shahid Usman Balwa, Swan Telecom, D B Realty and others, together worth Rs 223.55 crore, have on the other hand already been attached by the ED. These include flats, land, bank balances and other assets described as “proceeds of crime”.

Kanimozhi had spent 190 days in Tihar Jail in 2011 after the CBI named her an “active brain” behind the functioning and setting up of Kalaignar TV. The CBI alleged that Kalaignar TV had received Rs 209 crore, deposited into their accounts through a circuitous route, from Swan Telecom (now Etisalat DB).

TN probes land grab by PC family

http://www.dailypioneer.com/home/online-channel/360-todays-newspaper/96201-tn-probes-land-grab-by-pc-family.html

SATURDAY, 22 SEPTEMBER 2012 00:06KUMAR CHELLAPPAN | CHENNAI

The Tamil Nadu Government on Thursday launched an investigation into charges of land grabbing by the family of Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram along the picturesque East Coast Road near Chennai.

A team of officials led by Revenue Division Officer Chellappa from Kancheepuram visited Karikattukuppam, a fishing hamlet along the East Coast Road and measured the land which is allegedly under the possession of Chidambaram’s wife Nalini Chidambaram, a senior lawyer herself and son Karti P Chidambaram.

“We found that the allegation of land grabbing against the Chidambaram family is true. Since the assistant director of the department of survey is studying the details about the measurements, I cannot reveal anything more now,” a senior official in the investigating team told

The Pioneer. He said there were discrepancies in the construction of compound wall by the Chidambarams.

“They have usurped 8.9 metre wide and 100 metre long area while constructing the compound wall,” said the official. The other details would be known after a couple of days, he said.

But GV Murugan, a Karikattukuppam fisherman, who closely follows the pattern of land ownership in the village said that the officials found out that the Chidambarams had grabbed 9 acres of poramboke land. “They have

documents for the 5 acres 11 cents owned by Annai Nalini Chidambaram. But the land measuring 9 acres is not in their name,” said Murugan.

Meanwhile on Friday, Jaya Palayan, president, South Indian Federation of Fishermen Societies, approached the Kancheepuram district administration with a complaint that the registration department in the district was manipulating the land documents to help people in higher places ease out of cases of land grabbing.

The Pioneer had reported recently that the family of the Union Finance Minister was involved in land grabbing and encroachment in Karikattukuppam village. But RR Arun Natarajan, counsel for the Chidambarams, had described the allegations baseless.

“The land at Karikattukuppam near Muttukadu was purchased by Nalini Chidambaram and Karti  in 1992. They have the title deeds, pattas and other documents confirming the fact that they are the legal owners of the land. They are using the land uninterruptedly since then,” Natarajan had told The Pioneer. He said the charges are baseless and would not stand scrutiny in a court of law.

PC’s wife, son accused of land grab by fishermen

Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram is in trouble again with more than 500 fishermen from the Karikattukuppam village in the East Coast Road near Chennai complaining to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa that the former’s family members have grabbed Government land.

“Nalini Chidambaram and Karti P Chidambaram, wife and son of Chidambaram have grabbed the Government poramboke and grazing lands abutting the Muttukadu

backwaters. They have built a high compound wall making it difficult for the fishermen to go to sea for their livelihood,” Jayapalayan, president, South Indian Federation of Fishermen Societies (SIFFS), told The Pioneer.

“We submitted a complaint to the Chief Minister, City Police Commissioner and other Government officials on Monday. The livelihood of more than 500

families have been threatened by the action of the Chidambaram family,” said Jayapalayan.

He said more than 12 acres of prime property have been grabbed by the family members of the Union Finance Minister. “The compound wall has been built violating the Coastal Regulation Zone Act. Though we had complained to the authorities long back about the land grab, the then Government ignored the same,”said Jayapalayan.

Sources said that the Chidambarams were planning to construct a super deluxe hotel at Muttukadu, which lies along the Bay of Bengal. “It is prime property abutting the beach. Though theprevious State administration had given the go-ahead  for construction, it got delayed for some reason or the other,” they said.Palani, a fisherman, said though they had demolished a part of the

compound wall twice, the Union Minister’s family rebuilt the same. “In the past, some of the police officials had warned us against antagonising the Chidambarams,” he said.

Controversies continue to dog Chidambaram even after the Supreme Court came to his rescue in the 2G spectrum scam by denying permission to Dr Subramanian Swamy to prosecute him. But back home, the Union Finance Minister is engaged in a serious legal battle with Raja Kannappan of the AIADMK, his main rival in the 2009 Lok Sabha election from Sivaganga constituency. Kannappan’s charge is that Chidambaram won the 2009 election by fraudulent means.

Swamy tells Adalat, Rahul is ineligible to become PM

New Delhi, Mar 31: Predicting Lok Sabha elections by the end of this year, Janata Party president Dr Subramanian Swamy has said, Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi was ineligible to become India’s prime minister.

Replying to a barrage of questions in Rajat Sharma’s Aap Ki Adalat on India TV, Dr Swamy said Congress president Sonia Gandhi was not appointed PM in 2004 by the then president APJ Abdul Kalam because of a law which could render her ineligible.

“That law is still there and I can tell you even Rahul Gandhi is ineligible to become the prime minister. I will keep this a secret till the opportune moment comes” ( Main ise us samay tak rahasya rakhoonga jab tak naubat nahin aayegi), said Dr Swamy.

Disclosing the sequence of events on May 14, 2004, the day Sonia Gandhi renounced her bid for prime ministership, Dr Swamy said, 340 MPs had signed individual letters addressed to the President saying they supported Sonia Gandhi as the Prime Minister.

“There was also a letter signed by Soniaji as MP that she supported herself to become PM. It is wrong to say that she did not want to become PM.

“Soniaji was supposed to call on the President that day at 5 pm to stake her claim. I called on the President at 12:30 pm and produced evidences to say that she was ineligible to become prime minister.

“At 3:30 pm, the President sent Soniaji a letter asking her not to come at 5 pm because there were some issues which needed to be probed. The President asked her to come at 10 am the following day. At 5 pm, Dr Manmohan Singh read out the last para of that letter to his MPs. The Congress should make that letter public”.

When Rajat Sharma pointed out that Sonia Gandhi could have staked her claim in 2009 too, but did not, Swamy replied: “That law is still there today. Even Rahul cannot become the prime minister. I will keep that a secret till the opportune moment comes.”

Dr Swamy said, “my birth chart shows I would return to power within a year. And, I can say with confidence that Lok Sabha polls will be held definitely by the end of this year, and not in 2014.”

Asked why he was targeting the Gandhi family, Swamy said: “I was sad to find that my good friend Rajivji was killed by the LTTE, and Sonia Gandhi was writing letter to the President seeking clemency for the killers. I was naturally angry.”

When Rajat Sharma showed him a picture of Swamy with Sonia Gandhi and Jayalalitha sipping tea and joining hands to pull down the Vajpayee government in 1999, Swamy laughed and said : “Even Arjuna and Duryodhana sipped tea together, but later fought the Mahabharata.”

Swamy also questioned the business activities of Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law Robert Vadra.

“One show find out what businesses he has in Hong Kong, in Italy. He has six aircraft in India, and I don’t think he ever passed out of school. He is a regular goer to gymnasiums, and once he fell because of too much steroid injections.

“Let me tell you, I have never levelled any charge without any basis. Even, Jayalalitha filed nearly 100 defamation cases against him, and I got all of them dismissed in the Supreme Court.”

“Once Congress even filed a defamation case against me. I told the court, I wanted to cross-examine Sonia Gandhi in court. The party quietly dropped the case”, said Swamy.

The Janata Party president said that the Pakistani spy agency ISI had all the informations about dubious hawala deals by Indian politicians in Dubai.

“No hawala business can be done in Dubai without the knowledge of ISI. The government does not want to hand Afzal Guru and Ajmal Kasab because it is afraid of Pakistan, otherwise why should the President take so long to decide about Afzal Guru and Rajiv killers?”

Swamy praised Anna Hazare as “an honest man, whose honesty cannot be matched by all the Congressmen put together”.

He, however, said, Anna had a “leftist team” with him, which thinks the Jan Lokpal Bill is the only panacea for all ills. “I have shown to the country how an individual can use the current laws to bring the corrupt to justice”, said Swamy.

Swamy praised Swami Ramdev and said the yogi was fighting for the national cause. “It will be better if both of us use Anna more rather than his team”, he said.

Praising RSS as a “nationalist outfit”, Swamy said “I would be proud if RSS uses me for its objectives”.

Aap Ki Adalat show with Dr Subramanian Swamy will be telecast on India TV t on Saturday (March 31) at 10 pm, and Sunday (April 1) at 10 am and 10 pm.

Islamic radical Anjem Choudary given Indian visa by the order of Chidambaram

Namaste All,

Despite Delhi High Court’s strict order to the contrary, UK based Islamic radical and Hinduphobic bigot Anjem Chowdhy and his fellow fundamentalists have been allegedly given Indian visa by CONgress government. This is as per Dr. Subramanian Swamy’s latest tweet (https://twitter.com/#!/Swamy39/status/173074970157654016), “PC overrules MEA and order issue of visa to Anjum Chaudhary because one Arab govt paid £ 100 000 to Anushka“.

Anjem Chowdhry is a radical UK based Muslim fundamentalist who has vowed to overthrow Indian Constitution and Parliament, and impose Sharia all over Indian Subcontinent under the banner of radical terrorist organization called “Sharia For Hind”. For past few years, he has been trying to overthrow UK Parliament to impose Wahabi Sharia and wants to fly radical black flag of Islam over the White House. Many of his radical outfits such as Islam For UK, etc. have been declared as banned terrorist organizations in UK.

Mr. Tajinder Bagga through a PIL had gotten an order from Delhi High Court to block Anjem from holding any such rally in Delhi. But as per Dr. Swamy, Mr. P Chidambaram, on pressure from Sonia Gandhi’s sister Anushka, has overruled Ministry of External Affairs and ordered an issue of Indian visa to this Islamic radical. If true, Chidambaram is openly flouting Delhi Court’s sovereignty and is assisting in anti-India activities.

Done with Booze, Drugs and Porn, now wants Sharia for India (http://www.ibtl.in/news/international/1760/done-with-booze–drugs-and-porn–now-wants-sharia-for-india)

Meet Anjem Chowdhary, the guy who wanted to impose Sharia in India and had all ridiculous arguments in its favour as IBTL reported first on Feb 12th [Shariya for India, website calls for Islamic revolution on March 3rd]. He had planned a massive muslim rally to invite Indian Hindus to convert to Islam and gherao the Indian parliament until Indian government throws the “man-made” constitution into dustbin and adopts “divine sharia law”. Following the news published on IBTL, nationalist organisation Bhagat Singh Kranti Sena filed a PIL against them and got the Delhi High Court ban the website in India and ban the rally as well. [शरियत रैली पर हाई-कोर्ट की रोक, शरिया 4 हिन्द पर लग सकता है प्रतिबन्ध]

But, the man who demands axing Bollywood, demolishing all temples, and imposing Jizya tax on all Hindus for ‘protecting’ their life, and unfurling the “black flag of Islam” on Indian parliament, had a life of a spoilt “bad man” earlier.

Britain’s leading daily, Daily Mail has exposed the ugly past of this person, hate-monger Anjem Chowdhary, who has in recent past done similar rallies in other European countries too. Daily Mail reports that before he grew his beard and turned to fundamentalism, Choudary, 41, was very much the life and soul of the party at Southampton University.

anjem-chowdhary-shariya-for-India-islamic-revolution

Photographs obtained by the Mail suggest ‘Andy’ – as he was then known – should be inflicting on himself the 40 lashes he prescribes for drunkenness. As well as downing cider and lager, the cleric is shown playing drinking games with cards, clearly forbidden under his strict Islamic laws, and holding a cannabis joint between his lips before smoking it.

On the evidence of friends from his student days, Choudary had sex with numerous white Christian girls. Under his version of Sharia law, he should be stoned to death for sex outside marriage. One of his former friends told Daily Mail, ‘I can’t keep a straight face when I see “fundamentalist Muslim Anjem Choudary” in the papers attacking the British for drinking or having girlfriends. ‘When I knew him, he liked to be called Andy, would often smoke cannabis spliffs all day, and was proud of his ability to down a pint of cider in a couple of seconds.

But in his days as a law student, he experimented with LSD, hallucinating and laughing hysterically for more than 20 hours. After he qualified as a solicitor, however, he swiftly moved into ever more radical Islam. Former acquaintances said this was possibly because he was angered by his failure to land a well-paid job with a big City law firm. At a mosque in Woolwich he met notorious firebrand preacher Omar Bakri Mohammed and quickly became his right-hand man. He also mixed with hook-handed demagogue Abu Hamza, who once called for bomb attacks on British civilian aircraft at a meeting chaired by Choudary. Choudary, meanwhile, is an ever-more prominent spokesman for radical Islam in Britain – despite the fact that the two groups he ran with Bakri, Al Muhajiroun and Al-Ghurabaa, have been banned. He seeks ‘a pure Islamic state with Sharia law in Britain’ where “Every woman, whether Muslim or non-Muslim, would have to wear a traditional burka”.

Instructed by Delhi High Court to probe a complaint against two radical Islamic preachers and their website announcing a march in New Delhi on March 3 to press for the enforcement of Sharia, police today said they would not allow any such march.

The website www.sharia4hind.com has been blocked and police have alerted hotels against hosting any individual connected to the proposed march or the “highly inflammatory” website.

The group’s head is London-based preacher Anjem Choudary, known for his fiery speeches and self-styled Sharia court. Along with Islamic radical Omar Bakri Muhammad — he left the UK for Lebanon in 2005 — Choudary founded the al-Muhajiroun. He was the man behind Islam4UK and referred to Osama bin Laden as his “ameer” who had attained “martyrdom”.

Choudary told The Indian Express over phone from London that the march organisers have already been contacted by Delhi Police.

“I do not believe in Indian law, so there is no question of seeking any permission from the authorities there. We have organised a video conferencing on March 2 with Sheikh Omar Bakri Muhammad who is based in Lebanon. My visa application is under process with the Indian High Commission here and I expect to get it… We hope to arrive a day ahead of our press conference. But in case we are not given the visa, we will broadcast our address to the demonstration,’’ he said.

“Arabs have failed in terms of Deen (religion) and the call for Sharia is strong from non-Arab countries like Indonesia and India… many of us have been involved with al-Muhajiroun, al-Ghurabaa and Islam4UK,’’ he said.

Though Choudary was born in UK, his father is of Indian origin while his mother is of Pakistani origin. Abu Baraa, convener of sharia4hind, is a British citizen of Bangladeshi origin.

Asked who his representatives were in India, Choudary said: “After the ban and other issues, we don’t want to talk about our people there. We have substantial support.’’

On his website www.anjemchoudary.com, he says: “I am not amongst those who believe in the false Gods of Democracy and Freedom or who worship Presidents, Kings and Prime Ministers by obeying them or who submits to any man made law as opposed to the divine law (i.e. the Shari’ah).”

On February 22, Delhi Police received a complaint from one Anil Kumar Yadav that sharia4hind was organising a march in the city. Attached to the complaint were printouts of the group’s website and posters on the Internet.

On the same day, the High Court heard a petition — it was filed by Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga of the Bhagat Singh Kranti Sena — which sough a ban on the march since “this may result in communal clashes and disruption of public peace and order”. The High Court asked the Police Commissioner to investigate the complaint.

Navaid Hamid, member of the National Integration Council, too wrote to Home Minister P Chidambaram seeking a ban on the proposed march and urged him to ask the Telecom Ministry to block the website.

Police said they were seeking the help of intelligence agencies to gather information on people supporting the group as Baraa was not cooperating. “Baraa did not tell us how many would be participating in the march. But the complaint mentioned that 300-400 people were expected,” an officer said.

“There will be heavy security March 1 onward, we do not want to take a chance. Hotels have been alerted and we will have pickets to foil any march to Parliament,” the officer said

From potatoes to the crores: a migrant’s journey to infamy

Kripashankar Singh was one of those who routinely arrived in Mumbai from Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, seeking survival, in early 1970s but he was no ordinary migrant. Having found a toe-hold with a relative in Khar, a central suburb, he marshalled just enough capital to buy and lug only half a bagful of potatoes from the wholesale market and sell it to the commuters going back home.

His stake was outside the Khar station. He chose his commodity well: potatoes do not wilt like other vegetables do, if there were unsolds they could be brought back to sale the next day. His politics too has been akin to that, for he knew which horses among the politician to bet on, around whom he should hover and from who seek an upgrade in his career. He gathered rain cheques.

This man is today the centre of perhaps the biggest corruption case in Maharashtra involving unseen and obscene sums of money. The Bombay High Court has now asked the Mumbai Police Commissioner to personally lead the investigation into the charges of corruption and huge amassed wealth without any source of income. And since Kripashankar Singh is and was a ‘public servant’, the government’s permission has to be sought to seize his property.

Congress’ behind the scenes man in Maharashtra, Kripashankar Singh. Image courtesy ibnlive.com

No doubt the story of how he accumulated and hoarded the wealth would be engrossing, if honestly probed, which can be presumed possible because the High Court is going to be watchful, having asked for a report by 19 April. Equally absorbing is the chronicle of his rise from a migrant-turned-vendor to a powerful politician to whom big builders and developers kowtowed.

From the narratives in the public domain, he, his wife, son and daughter were involved in the enrichment that has been listed in the PIL that led to the High Court action. The potatoes did not take the street-smart man far and he gave it up, finding a job as a machine operator in a drug company. On an evening, he and his closest friend, Harbans Singh, now a big-ticket developer-builder in Navi Mumbai, charted an interesting course for themselves.

Harbans Singh (no relative but thick as thieves) would take a job or turn to any business and Kripashankar would try his hand in politics. They had spotted the much-hated non-Marathi, especially the migrants from UP as their constituency.

If one did poorly, the other would step in to ensure they did not starve, depending on who did better. They were sure that either of them would crack Mumbai’s secrets. Both, it so happened did, one in the real estate business and the other in politics which invariably tend to blend. In this case, too, it happened. The leaked and published versions of the PIL against him shows that Kripashankar Singh has allegedly benefitted from builders: they paid the bills for his son’s wedding, gave him interest-free loans perhaps not intended to be returned.

Always clad in white, Kripashankar had two trademark features stamped on his face. One was the carefully nurtured stubble and the other, a Cheshire cat grin. Even when provoked, he never dropped it; it only grew more ingratiating. They can be seen in any photograph ever taken in which another person of bigger eminence than Kripashankar Singh featured. He was, he let the political bigwigs know, always at hand.

He would be the first to be seen, say when Sitaram Kesari, AICC treasurer, arrived at the airport and carry his bag for him. He would not only see him off but be waiting, as it were, hand and foot, 24×7 with him at the guest houses or hotels.

This apparently made things easier for him in rising in the political hierarchy. He hung around when Pratibha Patil, now President, then chief of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee, which too paid off. He was made one of the general secretaries; he would be a good pipeline into the non-Marathi constituency when the Shiv Sena never gave up harping on the locals.

Kripashankar never made as much noise as Sanjay Nirupam protectively did for the Hindi-speaking migrants on shifting from the Sena, but remained active, choosing his crew carefully. That was why when despite the PIL against his properties allegedly acquired by questionable means, and their list as long as an arm, he was not asked to quit the Mumbai Pradesh Congress Committee’s presidentship.

It was thought divesting him of the party’s top job in Mumbai would be misread as admission of guilt on its trusted man and a let-down for the non-Marathi population which the party hoped to benefit from. In retrospect, neither helped.

Kripashankar Singh invested wisely and his investments were in politicians from New Delhi. So much so even before Mrs Sonia Gandhi got active in politics, he introduced Vilasrao Deshmukh to her. This too paid off when in 1999, Deshmukh headed the government; Kripashankar Singh was sworn-in Minister of State for Home. Then, he may have summoned, if he had wanted to, maybe he even did, Arup Patnaik, an IPS officer. Patnaik, now Commissioner of Police, has been charged with personally probing the case against the former minister.

Frequent trips to New Delhi, being seen with the leaders, dropping names, cultivating journalists there and in Mumbai, treating the handpicked ones to a bit of booze and a sumptuous dinner, smoothed his way up. He often told Mumbai’s journalists in the late 1980s that they had better learn from their counterparts in the national capital. They drove Maruti 800 cars, not necessarily owned by them; each had a godfather, according to the migrant-turned-politician. The import was clear.

He knew how to position himself vis-à-vis a visiting VIP, a local politician with power and on that strength, was always available for some help. He was on the high-level grapevine, always listening, cracking a joke, a raconteur who knew how to pepper them with enough nuggets indicating he knew the high and mighty, belonged to those charmed circles. If not in the corridors of Mantralaya, the man would be seen sipping tea, watch deals being made in a minister’s anteroom. He learnt a lot and quickly, and ended up with one term as an MLC and three as an MLA.

The political growth saw Kripashankar Singh being appointed an observer to Jharkhand where he befriended Madhu Koda and that apparently took him into a different orbit. His clout was so good that he was kept only a whisker away from being liable for action by Anti-Corruption Bureau because not all the listed gains by corruption could be proven. He was thus, despite his own claim, also kept a whisker away from a clean chit. Now the court’s orders could turn the scene around, he may have a lot to answer for.

That smile may tighten a bit, and could even disappear.

Temple at Charminar asked to shut early

HYDERABAD: The Bhagyalakshmi temple at Charminar, which was embroiled in a controversy recently over the ringing of bells during the Juma prayers, has been served a notice by police asking the temple committee to shut the place of worship by 9 pm in view of the prevailing atmosphere in the Old City.

Though notices were served on the temple committee on a couple of occasions earlier, they refused to accept it and subsequently it was pasted on the temple premises a few days ago. The temple authorities keep the place of worship open till 10 pm on weekdays and till 11.45 pm on Fridays. However, police have now given them a closing deadline of 9 pm.

In fact, the Bhagyalakshmi temple is the only place of worship in the Old City which is open beyond 8 pm unlike other temples in the South Zone.

“The notice was pasted on the temple premises and subsequently it was removed by police after taking a photograph for evidence. We were asked to shut the temple by 9 pm, but it is not possible because of our age-old practices. However, police have not troubled us for the past 15 days, especially after the row over ringing of bells took place”, said the Temple authority.

Sonia’s Govt trying to ease out patriotic General and he takes it to court to protect ‘Honour and Integrity’.

Knowing the foreigner’s iron hold on the Govt. we have to smell a rat in this.  Maino wants to ensure her yesmen in all positions of power right from the President on.  Only a fool will doubt this.

New Delhi: Army Chief General VK Singh has taken the government to court over a dispute centred on his age. This is the first time that any service chief has fought the government in court. In a petition in the Supreme Court, General Singh has questioned the government’s decision to treat his date of birth as May 10,1950 instead of May 10,1951, which is listed his school-leaving certificate and other documents. In his petition, the chief asks why the  government has chosen to “change” his date of birth after 36 years in service with many promotions.

In months of back and forth and appeals, the Chief has exhausted all internal options to win his argument. The government’s view means that General Singh will have to retire at the end of May.

Dr.Swamy writes to Manmohan Singh to intervene in his Defense Minister’s attempt to ease out COAS of India

January 14, 2012.
Dr. Manmohan Singh,
Prime Minister of India,
South Block,
New Delhi.
Dear Prime Minister:
I write this letter regarding the matter of retirement of the Chief of Army
Staff  Gen V.K. Singh as decided by your Government.
I am constrained to take up this matter in view of the fact that Gen Singh not
only has  an impeccable battle-field record but he has also earned an extremely good
name in the ranks of the army and outside as a person who is ready to take steps to
clean up corruption whenever and wherever it has come to his notice in the army.
All the facts are known to you and I believe they are contained in a statutory
complaint made by Gen Singh himself with all the relevant documents in the
Ministry of Defence.  The Raksha Mantri Mr. Antony gave me an appointment and
I had met him to discuss this matter.  But from what he told me it appears that for
the resolution of the matter it is not in his hands and that is why since you are the
Prime Minister, I am writing this letter for I have a deep respect for you and for
your personal integrity.
The issue is not the question of changing the date of birth as was given in the
form when Gen Singh filled his form on joining the army.  Two points are amply
clear from the documents (1) that his date of birth in the matriculation certificate is
1951  and in the form filled by him it  is 1950.  As far as the filled up form is
concerned, Gen Singh at that stage was a class X student and it could well be that
the form was filled up by somebody, e.g. his teacher. But more importantly whether
his date of birth is 1950 or 1951 in the application form, it gave him no benefit as fa
form was filled up by somebody, e.g. his teacher. But more importantly whether
his date of birth is 1950 or 1951 in the application form, it gave him no benefit as far 2
as his service in the army is concerned and no benefit in his subsequent career.  It is
important to bring to your notice that four former Chief Justices of the Supreme
Court of India found it compelling to write out their opinion, one of which opinion
was sought by the Central Authority which is within the army, namely, the Adjutant
General’s office, namely, from Justice J.S. Verma and they were all unanimous that
legally and judicially the date of birth at any time when a dispute arises can only be
determined on the basis of the school leaving certificate which in this case is 1951.  I
have also been told authoritatively  but orally about the opinion of the Attorney
General of India, but his opinion is based on a question that was posed in a rigged
manner against the rightful claim of Gen Singh.  I urge you to disregard the same
and use your own appreciation of the facts.  The core point is  that the entire service
record of Gen Singh clearly show that the Adjutant General’s office after due
“verification and authentication from the state of his selection in the army, the date
of birth has been nothing but 10.5.1951 and not 10.5.1950.  This date of birth, viz.
10.5.1951 is also the same date given by the successful candidate Gen V.K.Singh at
the entry point and accepted by the UPSC as correct at the time of selection.
The media is naturally being organized by some and you know that is not
difficult.  The nation cannot treat him as officer sterling in unfinished career and
dropped, targeted and destroyed in this manner.  I have my own theories of why this
is being dumped and demoralize the jawans in the army.
I urge you  with respect to intervene and ensure that this matter is settled on
merit and  in the larger interest of the nation and that it will not be necessary to
undergo a massive litigation launched by a body called Grenadiers Association of
Rohtak, Haryana and pending in the Supreme Court.
Yours sincerely,

Nation in crisis, PM and Sonia live inside a well. B. Raman asks Pranabda to lead a new coalition

B. Raman should have used the famous Sanskrit phrase to describe the ‘leaders’ who live inside a well: kūpa-maṇḍūka (attested in Panini)meaning, lit. frogs in the well.

It is unfortunate that the strategic analyst has forgotten that Pranabda is an Emergency veteran (see Shah Commission report just published by Era Chezhiyan) and will NOT act. He should have addressed his letter to the people of the nation.

NATION IN CRISIS: OPEN LETTER TO SHRI PRANAB MUKHERJEE

B.RAMAN

Dear Shri Mukherjee,

The nation is in a very serious crisis the like of which we had not seen before since we became independent in 1947.

2.As someone who had served in the Government of India for 27 years under Indira Gandhi, Morarji Desai, Charan Singh,Indira Gandhi again, Rajiv Gandhi, V.P.Singh, Chandra Sekhar and Narasimha Rao, I feel concerned over the depressing state of affairs marked by perceptions of uncontrolled corruption, policy mismanagement, inept governance and a total lack of political and administrative acumen at all levels of the political leadership and the bureaucracy.

3. My depression is rendered even more acute by the intellectual sclerosis that seems to prevail in Governmental and political circles in New Delhi marked by utter insensitivity to people’s anger and incomprehension of the implications of the dangerous drift leading the nation towards a precipice with no return.

4. The youth of the nation is totally alienated. There is no inspiring, wise leadership that can give them cause for hope for the future.

5.A nation without hope is a nation without a future. Nothing illustrates more dramatically and more shockingly the total lack of leadership and wisdom than the manner in which the political leadership has dealt with the anticorruption agitation of Anna Hazare, which has wide support among the youth of the country.

6. Instead of understanding and appreciating the depth of public anger reflected in the Anna movement and taking action to mitigate the anger, the political leadership has been playing games with it, making solemn commitments to persuade Anna to break his fast in August and then ignoring those commitments.

7. One embarrassment after another—the 2 G scam, the Commonwealth Games Scam, the mishandling of the appointment of the Central Vigilance Commissioner, the failure to do the political homework before taking the important decision on allowing foreign direct investment in the retail sector etc— has not only severely damaged the credibility of the Government, but has also earned for it the contempt of large sections of the people.

8. The shocking nonchalance of the Congress leadership in the face of the spreading confusion reminds one of the Bourbon Kings of France before the 1789 Revolution—having had nothing to learn and nothing to forget.

9. This is the time for robust and wise leadership activism. Instead we find a semi-comatose leadership in the party and the Government. The Prime Minister and the Congress leader Mrs.Sonia Gandhi— instead of acting to dissipate the darkness engulfing the country— have chosen to live inside a well where others can’t see and hear them and they can’t see and hear others.

10. There is a total drought of communications between the leadership and the people. Instead of interacting transparently and vigorously with the people, the media, Team Anna and the youth supporting them, Dr.Manmohan Singh and Mrs.Sonia Gandhi have withdrawn into a shell looking over their shoulders suspiciously at each other worrying what the other is up to.

11. Jawaharlal Nehru often used to speak of administering a shock treatment to a nation in crisis. The time for such a shock treatment has come. Only you can—- with your vast political wisdom, courage and experience— encourage such a shock treatment in the form of a national coalition to deal with the immediate crisis before things get out of hand and pave the way for fresh, premature elections.

12. The citizens of this country with no axe to grind look up to you to lead.

With warm regards,

Yours sincerely,
B.Raman, Additional Secretary (retd), Cabinet Secretariat, Govt. of India, New Delhi.

If the imminent balance of payment crisis for country is true, this bodes very ill. We will be back (or even behind) where we started in 1991. In the meantime, country is up for grab by almost anybody powerful enough. Juts for the votes (and indeed effective as they won last election) government started MNREGA, in effect creating large hole in our budget and at the same time making poors perpetually dependent on government largessee. Also, outside our capability so much expense is being done in the name of security, against china, against terrorist..we simply are in no position to afford so much of this. Greece was a right example, now we will be making ourselves a laughing stock for the whole world.

Lesson from past few years, which countries emerged most powerful n past few years – China and Germany. What is common between between these two…economy, the produce and export more than what they consume. Rest everything follows money. What has out country gone to..we are consuming nation, our largest source of income – service (IT, call centers etc) and remittance by outside Indians. What we are making ourselves, a servant country heavily dependent on outside masters in US, Europe and Middle East.

Frankly speaking I don’t have high opinion about Pranab Mukherjee. He is experienced yes, but since Indira Gandhi time, he is considered in the good books of Ambanis. Recent propaganda about him being the best in cabinet is propagated by the paid media. Shrewd as he is, he won the power game against Chidambaram. He can’t do anything to solve the problem. In all likelihood, he will blame RBI for the crisis. RBI in fact are the sole warrior to try manage the situation, whereas Government fiscal policies are entirely to blame. The blame game, Govt, Hajare, Opposition etc etc will make the situation worse. We need some unity, some leadership. I am really very very pessimistic today. God save my country.

Swamy demands PC’s resignation, targets Sonia

PTI | 06:12 PM,Dec 10,2011

Gorakhpur (UP), Dec 10 (PTI) Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy today demanded the resignation of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram claiming he had decided the price of 2G spectrum with former Telecom Minister A Raja. Addressing a press conference, he said he had submitted relevant documents to the court that bore signatures of both the ministers. Swamy said Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal was unnecessarily defending Chidambaram, a reference to Sibal’s press conference in Delhi today when he rejected all allegations against Chidambaram. He supported BJP’s stand of boycotting Chidambaram in parliament. He also claimed that the Prevention of Communal and Targeted Violence Bill,2011 was prepared on the dictates of Sonia Gandhi by National Advisory Council. The Bill would divide the country in several parts and groups as it provides remedies only to the minorities, he alleged.
